Seven Instagram Feeds to Spark Your Creativity

Creative Instagram Feeds

Have you ever thought “I need to learn how to crochet” or “my breakfast would like better if it was symmetrical?” These are some of the crazy thoughts that enter my mind when I browse the weird and wonderful world of Instagram.  The social media channel never falls short in inspiring me to be a better photographer, to think outside the square, or to channel my inner child.

With some Instagram accounts I’m in total awe of their photographic skills, others I’m mesmerised by the way they can style the shot, and then there are the few that I think “Wow … at what level does your mind work and how do I tap into that side of my brain?” Everyone needs a hat crocheted to look like a burger, right? Maybe not before, but once you see Phil Ferguson’s (@chiliphilly) feed you will totally want one!

Below is a list of my top seven Instagram feeds to spark your creativity. Click on the names to see more.

Phil Ferguson (@chiliphilly)

How could I not start with this one? When Phil moved to Melbourne in 2014 he began crocheting hats on posting them on social media as a way of making new friends.  He really makes you think, “Is there more I that should be doing with my life?”

Peechaya Burroughs (@pchyburrs)

Whenever I see Peechaya’s posts I always wonder “how does she do it?” Her feed is amazingly simple yet beautifully executed. Her posts are so much fun and it’s not hard to see that this is one talented lady! Peechaya states on her web site that she is “driven by childhood memories and very much fascinated by children’s imagination and their quirkiness”.

Phonsay (@p22_art)

Phonsay is a fine art photo artist from Australia that creates surreal minimalist images via photography and digital editing. His work is inspirational and borders between reality and imagination. My response to his feed is usually “wow!”

Seven Instagram Feeds to Spark Your Creativity

Daniel Rueda (@drcuerda)

It’s no surprise that my eye is drawn to minimal feeds. I love minimalism.  And I also love geometry, strong angles and leading lines in photography.  Daniel has this awesome ability to draw all of these features together in his photographs.  The shots are fun and crazy good.  His partner in crime, Anna (@anniset), also has a very quirky and impressive feed.

Valentina Loffredo (@thatsval)

Valentina has an amazing eye for shapes, patterns and colours.  She created an inspiring Instagram series tagged #getting_people_in_shape which has received contributions from all around the world.  I love the simplicity of the shots and her use of geometry.

Seven Instagram Feeds to Spark Your Creativity

SymmetryBreakfast (@symmetrybreakfast)

This is truly one of my favourite food feeds.  1) I love symmetry and 2) I love breakfast. It’s a match made in heaven!  This couple from London makes food look awesome on a plate.  The downside is that their page makes me very hungry and it also makes my breakfast look really inadequate!
